Porch Light
listen to porch light by noah kahan
The space outside my bubble
A quiet transition through the heavy door
Blows cold air as the tree sways
Chilling the warmth from the house
My steps are a rhythm of how my body moves
The gray asphalt in the middle of the trees
Streetlights that shine a soft yellow to show the way
My home has been my whole life
Where the porchlight shines at night
I can see it from a distance
I notice the different houses
The difference in the front yard
Walking around the quiet neighborhood
Hearing the echoes of children who once played here
As I walk around the roundabout
I see the birds fly through the air
The neighborhood once lively
Has become quiet
Mundane
A ghost town, where I happen to live
Beyond the glass, shadows shift in flickering yellow light,
Silent witnesses to a world that doesn’t exist
Front yards show the personalities of people
The ones I call my neighbors
